Harvest

Mechanical and manual harvest: the reason why we love both

MECHANICAL HARVEST

Advantages of mechanical harvest: reduction in harvest time and costs, solving also the problem of the lack of manpower. Moreover, having a grape harvester, allows the winemaker to start immediately when the grapes are ready to be collected, without delays.

Mechanical harvest is useful for fresh and young wines, allowing grapes to be pressed fast after collection, preventing problems due to high temperatures on hot early September days.

MANUAL HARVEST

Advantages of manual harvest: preferable for long macerations, where the skins stay in contact with the must for a long time, in order to extract intense colours and bouquet. It’s also important for human selection of the grapes, allowing to remove those who are not perfect. This is necessary for the production of high-quality wines, with intense colours, bouquet and flavour, such as Aureum (orange wine), Rubrum, Spineri and Raboso (red wines).

That’s why Oryzetum wines uses both mechanical and manual harvest, each according to different oenological purposes.
